The Upledger Institute, Inc. was founded in 1985 by John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M., renowned
for his development of CranioSacral Therapy. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive form of
light touch therapy which uses the craniosacral systems rhy thm to detect and balance restrictions
that can cause pain and dysfunction throughout the body. The craniosacral system consists of the membranes
and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
The positive effects of Cranio Sacral Therapy have been scientifically documented. Much of the research
was conducted by Dr. Upledger, who managed a research team at Michigan State University from 1975 to
1983.
Today the Institute conducts over 400 workshops each year, teaching innovative therapies to healthcare
practitioners of all disciplines. Alumni include osteopaths, medical doctors, doctors of chiropractic
medicine, psychiatrists, dentists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, acupuncturists,
nurses, massage therapists and other bodyworkers.
