The UI Institute Announces Topics and Speakers For The FSMTA’S 2000 Annual Convention
June 20, 2000, Orlando, FL -- The UI Institute, Inc.®, headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, today announced that eight members of its staff; considered to be mentors in the various fields of complementary healthcare will address the Florida State Massage Therapy Association’s 2000 Annual Convention. This year the convention will be held at the Radisson Hotel Universal Orlando in Orlando Florida, July 6 through July 9.

Dr. John E. UI, D.O., O.M.M., prominent osteopathic physician and the founder of CranioSacral Therapy will be the keynote speaker of the FSMTA convention. CranioSacral Therapy (CST), is a gentle, hands-on-method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the physiological body system called the craniosacral system—membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The topic for Dr. UI’s keynote speech will be “The Expanding Role of Massage Therapy in the New Millennium.” Highlights of Dr. UI’s speech will encompass that in this age of rapidly expanding high technology; personal interaction to maintain and enhance health is becoming a necessary ingredient. One-on-one touch has the power not only to enhance body health, but also the health of the mind and spirit. Dr. UI will discuss modes and methods in this promising, truly enlightening keynote address, which is scheduled for 7:30 on July 6.

Among the presentations the conference attendees will hear are:

  • Friday, July 7, 9:00am – 12:00pm; AND 2:00pm – 5:00pm CranioSacral Therapy and Its Application To Massage Therapy * Roy Desjarlais, LMT, who specializes in CranioSacral Therapy, will present the history, concepts and theory behind this gentle approach.
  • Saturday, July 8, 9:00 – 12:00pm; AND 2:00pm – 5:00pm Lymph Drainage Therapy: A Breakthrough in Lymph Drainage Techniques * Bruno Chikly, MD (France), will discuss his original, hands-on method of LDT. Dr. Chikly will review how trained therapists use it to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth, and quality of lymph flow over the entire body. A demonstration of Manual Lymphatic Mapping (MLM) of the skin, muscles, fascia, viscera, and periosteum to determine the best alternative pathways for interstitial fluid and lymph
  • Saturday, July 8, 12 noon – 1:00pm Accessing the Wisdom of the Heart: Transforming Personal and Ancestral Emotional Trauma * Alaya Chikly, will discuss Heart –Centered Therapy. This gentle approach to emotional healing that draws upon the client’s inherent ability to access and utilize his or her own spiritual resources. Find out how it’s techniques help free one from the limiting perceptions of the personality, and inspires the heart to impart its wisdom in ways that bring transformation through loving insight. This opening allows for one’s higher nature to initiate healing, not only for the individual but also for the immediate family and the ancestral lineage as well.
  • Sunday, July 9, 9:00 am – 12noon Introduction to Visceral Manipulation * Dee Ahern, R.P.T. Visceral Manipulation was developed by French osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral, is based on the philosophy that all body systems are inter-related. Ms. Ahern will act as your guide to better understand how the organs of the visceral system affect the neuromuscular and skeletal systems of the body. Taught throughout the US since 1985, visceral manipulation continues to expand the field of manual therapies.
  • Sunday, July 9, 9:00am – 12noon Process Acupressure and Zero Balancing: Healing the Great Divide in Bodywork * Catherine Crews, Ph.D. David Lauterstein, together will review all aspects of the person speak through the body. With Process Acupressure one is able to facilitate movement through the body, mind, emotions, and soul. Zero Balancing is a fascinating form of bodywork that combines knowledge of anatomy from the West with an understanding of energy from the East.
