What is The Upledger Institute International?

The Upledger Institute International is a health resource center located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, that''s recognized worldwide for its groundbreaking continuing-education programs, clinical research and therapeutic services.

The Institute was founded in 1985 by Dr. Upledger to educate the public and healthcare practitioners about the benefits of CranioSacral Therapy. It conducts hundreds of workshops throughout the world each year, educating healthcare practitioners of many diverse disciplines in CST. To date, more than 100,000 have been trained. Among them are osteopaths, medical doctors, doctors of chiropractic, doctors of Oriental medicine, naturopathic physicians, psychiatric specialists, psychologists, dentists, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and other professional bodyworkers.

Also located in Palm Beach Gardens is The Upledger Clinic. This innovative clinic offers both private sessions and unique intensive-therapy programs that address such conditions as migraine headaches, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic neck and back pain, emotional difficulties, motor-coordination impairments, stress and tension-related problems, central nervous system disorders, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, orthopedic problems, chronic fatigue, scoliosis, neurovascular or immune disorders, infantile disorders, colic, post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, disabilities, fibromyalgia and other connective-tissue disorders. In addition, the Upledger Clinic provides infancy-to-preschool evaluations and helpful one-day ShareCare® seminars designed for the general public.

How do I locate practitioners who have trained with The UI Institute?

The International Association of Healthcare Practitioners (IAHP), www.iahp.com, is a useful resource for those seeking trained healthcare practitioners. The IAHP lists information such as name, professional titles, city, state, email, province and phone numbers as well as courses taken.

How do I become a CranioSacral Therapist?

The Upledger Institute holds workshops and seminars across the country and, through our affiliates, around the globe. Therapists and medical professionals interested in becoming CranioSacral Therapists have numerous opportunities throughout the year to take classes, grow their skills, become certified and even attend local study groups.

Can I attend your courses if I am not a licensed healthcare professional?

We are pleased to offer specific classes for the layperson and those non-licensed healthcare professionals. The majority of our courses though are taught as continuing education modalities for people who are licensed or certified to perform manual therapy. There are occasions when non-healthcare practitioners may attend these courses. We simply require you to sign a consent form stating that you understand we are not teaching you to be a professional therapist and note that our courses do not offer any type of licensure to perform therapy professionally.

How do I find out if I am covered under my license to do (CST, VM, NM, etc) and who do I contact?

Qualifications to practice bodywork vary greatly based on state/province. Ability to practice specific modalities may also vary based on profession. Some states and provinces do not require a specific license to be held in order to practice. Industry regulations are known to change frequently. Please contact your state or provincial licensing board for specifics.

What is considered a full-time student for your discounted student tuition?

To receive the student discount (available in most cases for the entry-level class of each modality), you must be enrolled in a full-time educational program designed to lead to licensure or certification as a manual therapist. Massage Therapy programs must be a minimum of 500 hours.

Are Continuing Education Units (CEUs) available for your courses?

Yes, we work with many state and national boards throughout North America to provide CEUs for practitioners. Current CEU status is typically posted here. Before attending a workshop, simply verify CEU acceptance with your professional board.

If the course you would like to attend is not currently approved with your professional board, please feel free to contact our CEU Coordinator at 1-800-233-5880 to see about obtaining approval.

I lost my documentation and need a new Certificate or CEU Letter of attendance or a record of courses attended.

To obtain a replacement copy of your class certificate (for display) or CEU letter (for submission to licensing board), please contact 800-233-5880 ext. 2. Replacements are $5.00 per set (certificate and CEU letter).

If I have to cancel a class, can I get a refund?

In most cases, tuition is fully transferable up to 7 days prior to the start of the class. Within 7 days, a $100.00 administrative fee will apply. Tuition is fully refundable up to 30 days prior to the start of the class. Refund requests must be made in writing within 12 months of the registration. Do you offer scholarships?

We do not, though we are happy to work out payment plans on an individual basis. Please call our Educational Services Department at 1-800-233-5880 for details.

How many days are your seminars and what hours do they run?

The courses are generally three, four and five days long and usually run from 9am-5pm each day, ending at about 3:30 pm on the last day of class. There are occasionally exceptions to this, so please check with Educational Services at 1-800-233-5880 if you have any questions or concerns.

Do I have to come to Florida to attend your school?

How far ahead of time do I need to register for a class?

Many courses fill up well in advance of the start date. We recommend that you register as early as possible to ensure your space in a class. Early registration discounts are available on certain classes as well. Click here to find a course near you.

Do the course developers teach the classes?

In some cases yes, though in most cases they do not. Each class was designed by its modality developer, who maintains a rigorous teacher-certification program to ensure the material and presentation is consistent and of the highest quality. All of our instructors have gone through these extensive apprenticeship programs before being certified to teach.

Who is teaching my class and where is the meeting site?
